1. Goal Zero Power Bank – This power bank is compact; light and it even comes with one cable already to use. Its even waterproof. This has made it on to the list as it is important to be able to contact emergency services if required (hopefully you never need to but for that one time you do and you are running out of battery this is the power bank for you) It holds its charge really well, it comes with an micro USB cable which neatly fits round the power bank. For all you iPhone customers you would need to buy a small cable (I say this so that it can be your outdoor charger and can be stored via the USB slot. This device has 2 USB ports and a build in torch, so Ideal for them emergencies.

2. Harveys Ultramap – If you have never used Harveys maps then they are brilliant and very different to the OS maps. Due to there different scale they are not as detailed but that means that they cover a larger area. If you already know how to use a map and compass then these small and compact maps are great as it means that you don’t have to carry a big map and sometimes in the wind this can cause other issues. They are fully waterproof and really useful for the ultra-light backpacking days. But I is always worth carrying a spare map just in case.

3. OS Map – If you are wanting to learn to navigate then a OS map is a great place to learn. Get one of your local area and practice looking at the features and orientating the map so the map and the features are all facing the same way. 4. Silver Compass – There are many compasses out there the one that I use on a daily basis that has never let me down are the silver compasses. They have a variety, but I find the one with the different measurements on really helpful when measuring on the map. The dile is smooth and turns around nicely even when your in a awkward position. It is hard wearing and last a long time, if kept safely when out and about.

5. Petzel Actik Core Head Torch – Some of you might be think why talk about head torch if your going out for the day. But it is an essential bit of kit as we have said previously if something was to happen and you had to wait for help the night may close in and having a light can really help to indicate where you are as well as a bit of comfort. But a good head torch will have a reasonable distance on it so that you can see a good few matures ahead of you. It can also prevent you from tripping over in the dark and causing and injury. But this torch is supper hard wearing, has a good distance on it and is comfortable to wear. Its rechargeable which is good as if you are carrying a power bank you are also going to be able to charge your headtorch.
